We’ll all miss John Inman and his character Mr Humphries from the old 70’s sitcom Are You Being Served? We all found him funny but how many of us would actually like to be served by him?

The service industry is one of the most fickle and demanding and unless one has patience and a certain inner quality you’d best stay out of it. A funny site that I visit pointed out the repercussions of bad service that I’m sure many of us can relate to.

Hairdressers are renowned for being temperamental so service can be either a pleasure or a real trial. I’m lucky enough to be mobile so I can see clients either at work or in the comfort of their own homes where the stress of getting to and from the salon is gone. So I get a calm client who can still keep working or look after the children, hopefully. The way I see it is that a hairdresser has 3 distinct parts to their service:

  1. To make the client look as good as they can
  2. To help the client relax and have a small amount of “them” time in a busy day, and
  3. To make them feel good

But I’m a big believer that if you are not happy with the service you should say something, how else will they know that they are not keeping up their end of the deal? And if they don’t care? Find someone who will, we are out there, we’re just harder to find.
