Being a mobile hairdresser I travel all over Sydney and occasionally I find myself in Pyrmont, just near Darling Harbour but much nicer, and marvelling at what a wonderful and pretty suburb it is and just how much it has changed over the years.
So I went for a wander through it inbetween appointment one day. I was amazed at how much there is in Pyrmont now, but being short on time I decided to check it out on the web when I got home to see where I’m going for dinner next time. And here’s what I found on PYRMONT.
What I found so amazing about not only Pyrmont but the website in particular was that it has a real community and village feel that places like the Southern highlands would envy. With an emphasis on local businesses and sustainability, Pyrmont will prove to be a driving force and example of 21st century city living.
It boasts a staggering 58 food and watering holes and runs a competition called the “Taste of Pyrmont” where diners are encouraged to vote for their favourite eatery. They also have a scheme called LETS (Local Exchange Trading Scheme) where it is an exchange of goods or services between members of the scheme, a way of living that has become popular in rural areas again. Or if you’re in mind of a nice walk, Pyrmont has plenty of pictureque walkways along the harbour, or you could catch one of the regular art exhibitions.
So how do you get there? My favourite way is a train into the city and walking across the Pyrmont bridge, but for those who want to see the sights from a different view, catch the Monorail.
Hope you enjoy Pyrmont as much as I am going to.

Dear G.P. I believe it’s good to inform people and support other businesses, not negatively mouth-off with bad spelling and looking like a dickhead.

Well Rob, it all depends on what you want from life and what stage of life you’re at. I find Pyrmont beautiful with plenty to do, see and, most importantly, eat. But I’m 40 and appreciate what the locals have done with the area. I still remember though the time you wouldn’t walk through Pyrmont at night so to see what it has become today only makes me appreciate it the more. Maybe you should just take a chance and go experience it with a few friends and use it to broaden your horizons.
RC Turner and GP – I’m not entirely sure what the point is in contributing derogatory / condescending comments on here. The author has their opinion based on personal experience – you also have yours based on your experience – neither of them are invalid and it’s a mark of maturity to be able to acknowledge other people’s perspectives (even if you feel differently). I’m a young professional from NZ who has lived in the Sydney CBD (apartments) since I moved here in early 2008. I moved to Pyrmont 1 week ago and love the place – it’s a stone’s throw from the city attractions, and yet has a peaceful suburban feel to it, not to mention a thriving night-time community around restaurants, bars & cafes. I wish I’d moved there sooner!
