One of the great things about being a Mobile Hairdresser is that I do a fair bit of travelling through different areaas of Sydney and therefore get to check out a wide variety of people. This week I was working in Maroubra and so got to go through 4 distinctly different areas and to get there I usually take a bus. Why? On the bus I can sit there and observe what people are wearing, how they have their hair etc. My favourite part of the trip is going through the airport, what greater melting pot of fashions can there be?
It was the domestic terminal that I noticed this one women, a flight attendant, beautifully attired looking very smart and professional. Then I noticed her hair. A very bold white blonde hilite flowing from the front sweeping along the side and fading away into a very slick French Roll. The rest of her hair was a burnt copper tone. This is one of my favourite types of copper, rich but not too vibrant and so flattering on a woman her age.
Then I noticed the fake tan, or should I say, couldn’t help but notice? Unfortunately the tan was almost the same colour as her hair. Normally this kind of mistake is usually seen in certain surburbs where people tend to be a bit paler, their hair blonde and the clothes of a light tone as well. I refer to them as “Beige People”, all the colours blend together.
Hair colour, just like a fake tan, should enhance your appearance not transform you into an amorphous blob of uniform colour. This is where the hairdresser has to take some of the responsibility as they are the ones that are trained to know such things. So when you next consider what colour you want to be, look to your skin tone and beware of a colourist who takes your colour choices nonchalantly.
